We're shifting (back)
From Delhi to Naharkatia, a big gamble
2019 was when I first landed in Delhi.
What do I see immediately?
My Uber driver sped his White Suzuki Swift Dzire towards pickup, hitting the brakes like it was a Fast movie. The car wasn’t even completely parked when he got out of the driver’s seat and SCREAMED!
Screamed at some other fellow driver behind him with all sorts of foul language. Yes, including the ones Delhi is popular for. And that was my first impression of the city. An 18-year-old, travelling outside of his home state, solo, for the first time, I was welcomed in such a fashionable way.
It’s 2023 now.
Delhi has been our first home for a while now. Whenever we’re travelling, we talk to people about each other’s homes. Not the ones we have back in Assam, but our home in Delhi. That thought was always involuntary but maybe, it’ll fade away soon.
College is over, and we’re most probably shifting back to Assam. Namrup and Naharkatia, to be precise. That’s where we came from; two small towns, one with industries, the other a commercial gathering. And that’s where we’re going back.
Why are we leaving the city?
The honest answer is:Â to save money.
Delhi is amazing, no doubt. It has given us memories for a lifetime. We met people we’ve bonded with like family, and we’ve had experiences-good and bad, we’ll talk about and laugh at during parties for the rest of our lives.
But Delhi is expensive.
Be it the travel costs, ordering food, office rentals, or just the constant reminder of things we have to do ourselves-cooking, washing clothes, managing our domestic help, shopping for groceries, etc., makes living independently a double-edged sword.
Yes, all of us are lazy. But we feed our laziness through excuses. These excuses. And we want to cut down all excuses possible so we can focus on just one thing-
Work.
By God’s grace, we have a family back home, people who care for us, and who’re more than willing to serve us better to help us achieve what we dream. And that support system would help us save money, focus on work more, and build a wealth that’ll allow us to come back to Delhi, or any other city, two years from now.
Our plan is to get a huge office space in Naharkatia, my hometown, where each one of us will have our dedicated desks. In the morning, we’ll all assemble and finish our personal work and projects. At lunch, we’ll gather together and talk about the things we’re working on. After lunch, we’ll all work on our collaborative projects, things that won’t bring revenue right away, but are pointed in a direction for long-term growth and sustainability.
We’ll keep organising bootcamps, cohorts, workshops, seminars, and other events to attract more people to the town. This will boost local businesses, help the population learn new skills and allow them to explore different career options and ways of making money online so they don’t have to leave the comfort of their homes to earn a significant livelihood.
Let’s see how things turn out.
We want to develop ourselves, and the town too. So this is a big bet-opening an office. If everything goes smoothly, Naharkatia will soon be a changed town with much modern education and jobs all around.Â
If you ever feel like it, drop by and we’d be happy to receive you.
Till then, we’re enjoying our last few days in Delhi.
See you soon!
